Proper dryer maintenance is often overlooked , but vitality important to a safe home. In my 34 yrs as a firefighter, ⅔-¾ of accidental home fires were caused by lint and debris clogging a dryer.

"Per NFPA (NationalFireProtectionAsso.) 2,900 fires were caused by clothes dryers in 2025 in the US.

Yearly duct cleaning is a good safe rule for an average family. Just pulling the lint filter isn’t enough. Lint and debris along with moisture gets past the filter into the dryer itself and the duct to outside. Over time this gets thicker. If not maintained, ie; removing the dryer cabinet and vacuuming the void spaces inside the dryer and removing the duct and vacuuming and scraping it, a potential for fire is high.

Remember, Smoke and CO Detectors are the cheapest insurance for family safety as long as you test and change batteries annually.

Cleaning your clothes dryer and vent duct is the second most inexpensive insurance to having a fire safe home. Hiring a professional to do it is a valuable practice."
